  1. Dear Pat Mitchell and TEDxWomen2012 organizers,

Thank you for the opportunity to participate.

I am looking to learn, network, share.

I believe that Maker Spaces for Girls inside of Arts organizations will provide new pathways for girls and the women they will become in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) fields. Our world needs women’s voices in STEM. STEM needs women.

I am also interested in how men of all ages can contribute to and make a difference in a world of equality; one that affords the creation of new expressions of Partnership.

I am writing three articles on Partnership. What’s possible with the mix of equity and inequity we have worldwide now?, when equity approaches the norm (however imperfect and diversely expressed in different cultures)? After that norm is reached? I am working on the third; the first two are in draft.

The first article contains a model for the invisible advantages white men of a certain class receive while inequity remains. These invisible advantages become invisible liabilities as equity becomes the norm – unless men, our institutions, our society, indeed our culture, adapts. Making invisible advantage visible makes it abandonable, which could accelerate the rate of change.

I need collaborators, critics and partners to complete and publish this work.

My dream is to create a TEDxMen event based on the theme of what does it mean to be a man in a world of equity.

Who will join, coach, and challenge me?

    • Pat – Thank you for the opportunity to participate in what I’m sure will be an extraordinary two days with extraordinary people. Thank you for all you do every day and have done every day of your career to support the advancement of women.

Mark – I’m fascinated by your articles on Partnership and would like to explore participating with you on them. Let’s connect!

Looking forward to a stimulating and enriching couple of days with TedX Women DC,
      Joan
