Maya Azucena

Award-winning singer Maya Azucena is a natural fit for her work as a cultural ambassador. Among other acknowledgements, Maya has been awarded a Grammy certificate for her collaboration with Jamaican star Stephen Marley; a Proclamation from Congress for co-producing Hope Night, a concert for domestic-abuse awareness; and the prestigious “Top 40 Under 40″ Award from The Network Journal for her business acumen, community work, and work abroad. Maya mentors teenagers and is a motivational speaker on the subjects of artist entrepreneurism and achieving one’s dreams. She was able to share this with the world on the popular MTV reality show MADE by mentoring a teenager to her greater potential. In October, Maya had the privilege of doing a music tour of Russia at the invitation of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. She’s done several such tours including Tanzania, Honduras, El Salvador, Burma, Philippines, Sri Lanka, and China.

Maya also co-founded (along with Emmy-winning director Lisa Russell) the multimedia website MDGFive.com to raise awareness for better maternal health. Based on this work, Ms. Azucena was selected by the office of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to perform at his “Every Woman, Every Child” event during the 2010 UN Summit.
