Bernelle Verster

TEDxCapetownWomen, Co-Organizer

I believe an integrated approach to education, waste management and profitability is achievable. My company, Merah Mas Industrial Biotech, aims to combine adventure sport and tourism to educate both tourists and the local public about science, while making it fun. I believe wastewater treatment can be used to aesthetic effect in a landscaping application while educating about biotechnology and contributing to service delivery. So far, the most useful approach has been to work with existing companies and groups and bring people and projects together to achieve this, and it is one steep learning curve. Ultimately, I would like to see the development of valuable (bio)products, specifically biopolymers from wastewater in the near future.

I believe water is the best tool to use in transformation, because it is part of
everything that we do, it is so visible, and it has such positive power. It has the power to
hydrate us and drown us, wash us and wash us away. We play in it, and cannot survive
without it. Water is the most positive tool we have to make change.

One Response to Bernelle Verster

  1. Dear Bernelle Verster,
I run a volunteer and travel social entrepeneurship company called Volunteer Mzansi AFRIKA.

Having the opportunity to be a speaker and motivate other people from previously disadvantage communities to help uplift their community would be an amazing opportunity and a priviledge. So many are ashamed of coming from communities such as Ocean View and yet communities like this are filled with amazing people who are doing amazing things.

Please let me know what your thoughts are?

    Warm Regards-
    Chantel
