I had a mild heart attack when I was 49 (I am 57 now) I was one of those whose symptoms were ignored. I was told I was going through the changes. I did not have symptoms of a heart attack. I had a physical done a wekk prior so the doctor told me to just take Ibuprofin. I am so glad this is now being addressed. Yes women are ignored. I was in the emergency room and was told to go home but I REFUSED because I was not feeling well.I know my own body. Then the emergency room cardiologist saw me and that is the only time they took me seriously. Had I not been stubborn and went home ..I may not be here today.

I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THIS CRUSADE THAT BARBRA STREISAND IS ON FOR WOMEN’S HEART HEALTH SINCE IT BEGAN. I AM IN AWE OF HER TIRELESS WORK AND HER ENDOWMENT OF THIS WING FOR RESEARCH INTO THE NUMBER ONE KILLER OF WOMEN WORLD WIDE.

I DONATE EACH MONTH AS I MADE A VOW THAT I WOULD DONATE EACH MONTH UNTIL BARBRA MET HER GOAL. I LOVE THE CREATIVE IDEAS SHE COMES UP WITH TO GET PEOPLE TO DONATE. NOT ONLY IS BARBRA STREISAND AN AMAZING ARTIST SHE IS AN AMAZING HUMAN BEING.

I AM IN AWE THE TIRELESS WORK SHE HAS DOES TO HELP THIS CAUSE SHE IS SO PASSIONATE ABOUT AND I WISH I COULD BE ABLE TO BID ON THE CAMPAIGNS SHE CREATES TO MEET AND GREET HER. YET IN THE END THAT IS NOT WHAT’S IMPORTANT. AS SHE SAID IN AN INTERVIEW RECENTLY. “IF EACH PERSON JUST DONATED A DOLLAR WE COULD REACH OUR GOAL IN A DAY.” BARBRA, I AM A MAN OF MY WORD AND WILL KEEP DONATING EACH MONTH UNTIL YOU REACH YOUR GOAL.

MAY G-D ALWAYS SHINE HIS LIGHT UPON YOU AS YOU USE YOUR CELEBRITY TO HELP PEOPLE WHEN MOST DON’T. I AM HONORED TO BE YOUR FAN.

    KIND REGARDS,
    JEFFREY FREEDMAN

  4. Sarah Wall says:

Excellent presentation and thank you to both Ms. Streisand and Dr. Merz for bringing attention to this important women’s health issue. I just lost my Mom to heart disease, it was undetected, and untreated in spite of many other serious medical problems, and numerous interactions with many physicians. We can not afford to lose more women to a disease that is both preventable and treatable. Wear red today and fight heart disease in women.

  5. Jodi Womack says:

I am appreciative of Barbara for using her celebrity status responsibly, to bring awareness to an issue that otherwise is unknown in the mainstream.

And I loved how Dr. Merz was very careful not to compete with the efforts of breast cancer, but acknowledge how well they’ve done in creating awareness, action and support. Brilliant; to take a model that works, and apply it to the new situation/problem/cause. Brava.

  6. Craig Hall says:

So grateful to Barbra for using her PLATFORM to spread the word on this very worthy cause. It’s time that Heart Disease was taken as seriously as CANCER. After all, it kills more of our mothers… sisters… aunts… cousins… wives… friends. Spread the word…

  7. John Keating says:

That was an amazing insight to the female heart. Women are the heart beat of humanity and it is so right this issue should be brought to general awareness.

I would think the stats for women in the USA in relation to heart disease are the same for women here in Ireland. My concern for Irish women would be the lack of awarness.

Thank you for this vital information and I will pass this on. We must all put our hearts into bringing awareness to this vital message.

    Kind regards
    John Keating
