Announcing TEDxWomen 2012!

It’s that time of year again, and we couldn’t be more excited: registration to organize a TEDxWomen 2012 event is officially open! As always, TEDxWomen 2012 will be hosted by Pat Mitchell and the Paley Center for Media and live streamed to TEDxWomen communities all over the world, whom will bring their events to life with local thought leaders, movers, and shakers.

Mark your calendars: this year’s big event will take place on Friday, November 30th and Saturday, December 1st, 2012 in Washington, D.C.

Our theme is ripe for all kinds of compelling interpretations: The Space Between. We are already wondering, what does that meant to you? Does it conjour up the space between two strangers, the space between your values and how you live your life, the space between anger and curiosity? Leave your thoughts and suggestions in comments.

Last year’s amazing amalgam of speakers, both globally-renowned and locally-celebrated, were enjoyed by over 120 TEDx communities around the globe. Be part of the expanding family this year–register to organize your event now!

I would like to present the work done on excised women called clitoral reconstruction performed here in America. This provides great hope to the millions of women who have been genitally mutilated against their will when they were between the age of 4 and 12.

What is TEDx?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxWomen, where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDxWomen event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.

These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
